South Padre Island is crippled but absolutely up and running for tourist travel.  Here are some aerial photos I took this week detailing the damage.

And here were your comments: Interesting pics. Hurricanes are never good, but the good news is many vacationers now have an excellent opportunity on their hands. By taking a trip to South Padre over the next few weeks, you can get great deals and save some of that hard earned cash. If you were looking for a way to go on an inexpensive vacation, this is your answer. All Texans know South Padre is great place to vacation so if you want to help the local economy: take a vacation here and enjoy good food, fishing and good friends.

Yes, we’re definitely open for business! We’ve dried out our welcome mat, and invite you to enjoy our beautiful beaches!

I agree with Sam. Now that Ike has done his damage, there is no better time to come on down to the best beach in Texas. We have great restaurants, dolphin watch boat trips, offshore and bay fishing, parasailing, bungee jumping, fishing on the jetties, etc. Too much to put here but there are many upcoming events that are great. Sandcastle Days, the Intl. Music Festival with Willie Nelson, Foghat, and Blue Oyster Cult are coming up as well as BikeFest when the streets are filled by the Roar by the Shore. Lots of avenues for fun on this beautiful tropical paradise.
